Taxiing guidance signs are provided at all intersections with TWY and RWY and at all holding positions.

-Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) is Safedock type T1, availableat aircraft stands 21, 23 and 25.
- Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS)is Safedock type T3-9,available at aircraft stands 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 27 and 28.
a. Limitations of speed during entry into stand using visual docking system (VDGS):
- Speed of aircraft is not exceed 4 m/s within the distance from 20 M and beyond to the stop at the stop line of aircraft.
- Speed of aircraft is not exceed 2 m/s within the distance from 20 M to 3 M to the stop line of aircraft (within remaining distance, reduce speed and stop at the stop line of aircraft).

- For stands (14, 16, 18, 20): The maximum distance between the center of the nose wheel of aircraft and the center of the stop line of aircraft: ±1.5 M.

VVDN AD 2.20 LOCAL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

1 Airport Regulations
At Da Nang International Airport a number of local regulations have been applied. The regulations are published in a manual which is available at Da Nang ATS Reporting Office. This manual includes, among other subjects, the followings:
  1. The meaning of markings and signs;
  2. Information about aircraft stands including visual docking guidance systems;
  3. Information about taxiing from aircraft stands including taxi clearance;
  4. Limitations in the operation of large aircraft including limitations in the use of the aircraft own power for taxiing;
  5. Assistance from marshaller and follow-me-car .
2 Taxiing to and from stands
2.1
Arriving aircraft will be allocated a stand number by Da Nang Ground Control Unit.
2.2
“Follow-me” car assistance will be provided at request of operators or pilots.
2.3 Operational procedure of aircraft stands
2.3.1 For civil apron: (Including 35 stands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36).

- Military apron 8 (Including 19 stands: 6M, 7M, 8M, 9M, 10M, 11M, 12M, 14M, 15M, 16M, 17M, 18M, 19M, 20M, 21M, 22M, 23M, 24M, 25M) is used when the civil aviation apron is overload.

- Unlimited operation for aircraft with wingspan up to but not including 30 M and equivalent (Embraer, ATR 72 ...).
- For aircraft with wingspan from 30 M up to but not including 36 M (A320, A321) and equivalent:
+ Commercially operated maximum 3 flight/stand/day.
+ Unlimited operation in case of being used for unloaded aircraft parking or aircraft parking overnight.
7M, 8M, 9M, 10M, 11M, 12M, 14M, 15M, 16M, 17M
- Used for aircraft with wingspan up to 29 M.
6M, 18M, 19M, 20M, 21M, 22M, 23M, 24M, 25M
- Used for aircraft up to A321 or equivalent.
2.4 The taxiing procedures of aircraft
2.4.1 General procedures:
- Aircraft code D/E when being pushed to TWY E for departure (for stands 1, 2 aircraft are able to be pushed to taxilane D with the nose of the aircraft is to the North to taxi via taxilane D10 to TWY E for departure).
- Aircraft up to code C operating on taxilane D: TWY E is allowed to use for aircraft code E simultaneously to taxi.
- Aircraft code D/E after landing on apron: Taxi directly from TWY E into stand (do not taxi from taxilane D into stand).
2.4.2 The procedures for each stand:

- In case one of the stands 29/30/31/32 is not operated, aircraft at the remaining stands 29/30/31/32 are allowed to self-taxi via the non-operating stands to TWY E for departure.
- Aircraft code D/E (wingspan from 36 m up to but not including 65 m):
+ For arriving aircraft: Aircraft self-taxi to stands 30, 31.
+ For departing aircraft: Aircraft are towed/pushed to TWY E for departure.
- For stand 31 when operating aircraft C17, C130:
+ For arriving aircraft: Aircraft self-taxi into stand.
+ For departing aircraft: Aircraft self-taxi via interrupted taxilane via stand 32 to TWY E for departure.

- For departing aircraft: Aircraft are towed/pushed from stand to the centre taxilane on apron (the nose of aircraft is to the North/South) → taxi to TWY MAC3/MAC4 for departure.
3 Training flights - Technical test flights
Training flights and technical test flights can be made only after obtaining permission from the appropriate Authority.
4 Limitations, notes at apron
- When there is aircraft code D/E operating on TWY E: The aircraft with wingspan more than 36 m are not allowed to operate on taxilane D across the operating area of aircraft code E.
- When there is aircraft code D/E operating on TWY D (the portion from stands from 1 to 5): The ground vehicles, facilities are not allowed to move on the service road behind of stands from 1 to 5.
- When there is aircraft code D/E operating at stands 30/31: The ground vehicles, facilities are not allowed to move on the road behind of stands 30/31.
- When there is aircraft operating at stand 35: The ground vehicles, facilities are not allowed to move on the West service road parallel with stand 35.
- The ground vehicles, facilities when operating at stand 36: Only move within safety area that as signed to ensure safety during the aircraft operating on TWY E.
- Area limitations of stands 3M, 4M, 5M:
  • When there is aircraft with the length more than 30 m parking at stand, all aircraft are not allowed to move behind the parking aircraft.
  • When there is aircraft with the length up to 30 m parking at stand: Aircraft with wingspan more than 18 m are not allowed to move behind the parking aircraft.
  • In case there are aircraft A321 or equivalent parking at stand 5M: Aircraft with wingspan more than 26 m are not allowed to self-taxi via TWY D2, tow tractor is used to tow aircraft to taxilane D2 (there are security guards) to depart (follow–me car is used to lead the aircraft out/into stand).
- Operating aircraft on apron must ensure safe distance with the other aircraft operating on apron. When there are aircraft operating on taxilane D, the other aircraft are not allowed to be towed/pushed from aircraft stand across the manoeuvring area of aircraft moving on taxilane D.

VVDN AD 2.22 FLIGHT PROCEDURES

1 RNAV 1 SID and STARs
1.1 General procederes
1.1.1 Operators/pilots expect to fly RNAV 1 SIDs and STARs at Da Nang airport, shall insert character to describe suitable navigation performance into flight plan (item 10a and item 18 PBN/), as follows:
  • Insert R (PBN approved) into item 10a;
  • Insert D1 (RNAV1 all permitted sensors) or D2 (RNAV 1 GNSS) after PBN/ into item 18;
  • Specify equipment to support each type of navigation performance in item 18 and insert G/D/I for D1 and G for D2 into item 10a.
1.1.2 At system initialization, pilots must confirm that the navigation database is updated and verify that the aircraft position has been entered correctly. Pilots must verify proper entry of their ATC assigned route upon initial clearance and any subsequent change of route. Pilots must ensure the waypoints sequence, depicted by their navigation system, matches the route depicted on the appropriate chart(s) and their assigned route.
1.1.3 Pilots must not fly an RNAV 1 SID or STAR unless it is retrievable by route name from the on board navigation database and conforms to the charted route. However, the route may subsequently be modified through the insertion or deletion of specific waypoints in response to ATC clearances. The manual entry, or creation of new waypoints by manual entry of latitude and longitude or rho/theta values is not permitted. Additionally, pilots must not change any RNAV SID or STAR waypoint type in database from a fly-by waypoint to a fly-over waypoint or vice versa.
1.1.4 Route modifications in Da Nang TMA may be taken in form of headings or “direct to” clearances and the flight crew must be react immediately. This may include the insertion of tactical waypoints loaded from the database. The manual entry, or modification by the flight crew of loaded routes using temporary waypoints or fixes not provided in the database, is not permitted.
1.1.5 All pilots are expected to maintain route centre lines during all RNAV 1 operations unless authorized to deviate by ATC or under emergency conditions. For normal operations, cross-track error/deviation (the difference between the RNAV system computed path and the aircraft position relative to the path, i.e. FTE) should be limited to ±½ the navigation accuracy associated with the procedure or route (0.5 NM for RNAV 1).
1.1.6 Pilots shall comply with an ATC assigned level. Pilots shall also adhere to the vertical and speed restrictions depicted on the cleared RNAV 1 SIDs and STARs. ATC clearance will take precedence when the ATC clearance does not allow the pilots to adhere to the vertical and speed restrictions depicted on the RNAV 1 SIDs and STARs.
1.1.7 An aircraft having been cleared to PROCEED DIRECT TO (waypoint), where such waypoint is an element of SID/STAR shall:
  • Comply with both vertical and speed restrictions published at such waypoint, unless such restrictions are explicitly cancelled by ATC; and
  • Continue with the SID/STAR, after reaching the assigned waypoint.
1.1.8 If ATC issues a heading assignment taking the aircraft off a route, the pilot should not modify the flight plan in the RNAV system until a clearance is received to rejoin the route or the controller confirms a new route clearance. When the aircraft is not on the published route, the specified accuracy requirement does not apply.
1.2 Arrival and transition route
1.2.1 STAR procedures consist of two main elements:
  • Transition route; and
  • Arrival route
1.2.2 A transition route starts at a waypoint on the airway, at the waypoint, aircraft start change the heading and descent to intercept to arrival procedure.
1.2.3 For arrival procedure on en-route is not needed transitional route.

1.2.5 Additional elements on the STAR include:
  • Vertical restrictions which are designed to separate arriving aircraft from obstacles and from departing aircraft;
  • Speed restrictions which are designed for purposes of flow control of arriving aircraft.
1.2.6 RNAV 1 STAR is closed STAR, terminating at a waypoint which is intermediate approach fix (IF) of ILS w RWY 35L/R. Clearances for approach aircraft using ILS w RWY 35R/L shall be issued by ATC depending on current operation conditions.
1.2.7 STARs shall be issued by ATC in the following order:
  • STAR identifier;
  • TRANSITION point identifier (if applicable);
  • Runway‐in‐use;
  • Assigned flight level/altitude.
Phraseology clearance for STAR RNAV1: <Callsign> cleared <STAR identifier> arrival, <transition point identifier> transition (if applicable), runway <RWY in-use>, report for descent /maintain /descend to <assigned flight level/altitude>.
Note:
  • STAR RNAV 1 procedure defines a lateral route for an aircraft to fly from a significant point along the en-route / terminal phase of flight to the approach phase with minimal, or no, ATC intervention. All charted altitude and speed restrictions are mandatory unless specifically cancelled by ATC.
  • ATC will issue descent clearance, and once a lower altitude is issued by ATC, the pilot shall descend on the procedure profile to the assigned altitude. The pilot will comply with all charted altitude restrictions above the ATC-assigned altitude, unless specifically cancelled by ATC. When an approach clearance is received, all altitude restrictions on the procedure profile remain mandatory, unless specifically cancelled by ATC.
1.3 Speed control
1.3.1 In order to facilitate the flow of arriving aircraft within Da Nang TMA, speed control is used to optimize the spacing between aircraft and improve the orderly flow of air traffic.
1.3.2 Unless otherwise by ATC, all aircraft navigating under conditions of RNAV 1 SID/STAR shall conform to the speed requirements in these procedures.
1.3.3 ATC will notify that the aircraft may keep its preferred speed without restrictions and will use the phraseology “No (ATC) speed restrictions".
1.3.4 At other times, speed adjustment may be applied on a tactical basic to the extent determined by ATC. When speed adjustment is no longer required, the phraseology “Resume normal speed” shall be used.
Note: The phrase “Resume normal speed” does not delete speed restrictions that are applicable to these procedures in upcoming segments of flight.

1.4 Holding procedures
1.4.1 Holdings are designed to facilitate holding aircraft for delay to achieve required spacing between arriving aircraft during period of congestion.
1.4.2 Outbound time is:
  • 1.0 min for holding altitude up to FL140; and
  • 1.5 min for holding altitude above FL140.
1.4.3 The maximum speed is:
  • 230 KT (IAS) for holding altitude up to FL140; and
  • 240 KT (IAS) for holding altitude above FL140.
1.4.4 Holding speed shall not be assigned in case of turbulence.
1.4.5 Holding altitude is minimum altitude.
1.5 Departure Procedure

VVDN AD 2.23 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The turn pad area established at the beginning of RWY 17L have dimensioned as follow: length 130 M, width 73 M
TWY E (portion from E1 to E2) is used for aircraft with wingspan up to 65 M (code E).
The Da Nang International Airport will be used as alternate aerodrome for the Noi Bai International Airport in case aircraft B747-8 can not arrive at the Noi Bai International Airport, details are as follows:
  • Maximum take-off weight (Ton): 380 Ton.
  • Aircraft shall have to control the speed and need small amount of judgemental oversteering to maintain ICAO recommended 4.5 M clearances of outside main gear track and pavement edge when taxiing on the intersections of RWYs and TWYs, on parallel TWYs and on apron.
Remarks: Aircraft are requested to follow ATC instructions strictly.
Operation of aircraft A350-900 and B787-9:
  • Da Nang International Airport shall be used as alternate aerodrome for Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports in case aircraft A350-900 and B787-9 can not take-off from/land at these airports.
  • Use RWY 17L/35R as main RWY for aircraft A350-900 and B787-9 to take off and land.
  • Limited use of RWY 17R/35L for aircraft A350-900 and B787-9 to take off and land. If it is used, the aircraft must off-load.

7 Operational procedures of two parallel RWYs
7.1 General ruleDetails
7.1.1 Two parallel RWYs at Da Nang International Airport are operated dependently and considered as one RWY for flight operations. Separation between take-off, landing aircraft is applied as using one RWY.
7.1.2 When both RWYs are used for aircraft to take off, landing alternately: Approach lighting system, PAPI, flashing lights of the RWY are not be used for landing aircraft must be turned off.
7.1.3 The denaturing aircraft are not allowed to line up two RWYs at the same time.
7.1.4 At the same time, only one RWY direction is used for aircraft to take off/landing. Departing aircraft are not allowed to line up a RWY to hold for take-off while another aircraft is approaching on the opposite direction of its.
7.1.5 Aircraft with length more than 34 m is not allowed to hold on connected TWYs between two RWYs when both RWYs are using for take-off/landing. Departing aircraft are not allowed to hold, taxi or cross position that affects GP signal of aircraft which is approaching to ILS procedure of RWY 35L/R (holding position G1 for RWY 35L, holding position E/E1 for RWY 35R)
7.1.6 Air traffic controller (ATC) shall not issue clearance for aircraft to cross RWY 35R/17L when position of approaching aircraft on the final approach track of that RWY 35R/17L is at a distance less than:
  • Under ATS surveillance: 6 NM from THR; or
  • Without ATS surveillance: 3 minutes before estimated landing time.
7.1.7 TWR ATC must have action for ensuring the approaching aircraft to land on the correct RWY which is assigned for that aircraft. Pilots are required to read back for ensuring that the aircraft has fully received and correctly understood ATC's clearance. ATC must enhance aircraft monitoring on the final approach track and remind pilots when necessary.
7.1.8 Pilots are requested to comply with ATC's clearances, instructions strictly timely; expedite vacate RWY or line up RWY and take off following the issued clearance.
  • For departure aircraft (ready for take-off), pilots ensure that aircraft start rolling take-off in 30 seconds (in case aircraft has lined up RWY); or
  • 60 seconds (in case aircraft is at the RWY-holding position) since it received take-off clearance.
7.1.9 The usage of RWY for flight check of civil navigation aids, instrument procedures and for familiarisation flights have to follow the approved flight permission, ATS flight plan or training flight exercise.
7.1.10 These operational procedures are not applied in emergency, urgency and other necessary situations for ensuring the safety and regularity of the flight operations.
7.1.1 Two parallel RWYs 35R/17L and 35L/17R at Da Nang International Airport are operated dependently and considered as one RWY for flight operation. Separation between take-off and landing aircraft are applied as using one RWY.

  • For aircraft has lined up and ready for take-off: Aircraft should start rolling take-off in 30 seconds; or
  • For aircraft is at the holding point and ready for take-off: Aircraft should start rolling take-off in 1 minute.
7.1.8 These operational procedures do not applied in emergency, urgency or other necessities to ensure the safety, regularity of the flight operation.
7.2 Usage of RWYtwo RWYs:
7.2.1 When using both RWYs 35R/L
7.2.1.1 RWY 35L is mainly used for landing and RWY 35R is mainly used for take-off.
7.2.1.2 ATCs are only allowed the departure aircraft to line up and hold on RWY 35R when there is aircraft approaching on the final approach track in the following conditions:
  • Visibility is at or above 3 000 m, ceiling is at or above 200 m and the ATS surveillance system is in normal operation, the targets are accurately displayed as standard requirement and ATC can monitor the aircraft trajectory on the final approach track;
  • If the above conditions are not satisfied, ATC only issues clearance for the departing aircraft to line up RWY 35R when the landing aircraft has passed THR 35L.
7.2.1.3 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft on RWY 35R when:
  • Landing aircraft has landed normally on RWY 35L; or
  • Without ATS surveillance: 3 minutes before ETA;
  • Under ATS surveillance: Not less than 6 NM from THR.
7.2.1.4 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft take off from RWY 35R when the aircraft holding on TWY E/E1/E2 (when it is ready for take-off) on RWY 35L when another approaching aircraft is at 8 NM or more on the final approach track of RWY 35L for ensuring the simultaneously operational requirements for take-off aircraft.
7.2.2 Using both RWYs17R/L
7.2.2.1 RWY 17R is mainly used for landing and RWY 17L is mainly used for take-off.
7.2.2.2 ATCs are only allowed to departing aircraft for line up and hold on RWY 17L when the landing aircraft has passed THR RWY 17R.
7.2.2.3 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft on RWY 17L when:
  • The landing aircraft has landed normally on RWY 17R; or
  • Without ATS surveillance: 3 minutes before ETA;
  • Under ATS surveillance: Not less than 6 NM from THR.
7.2.2.4 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft when the aircraft holding on TWY E4/E6/E7 (when it is ready for take-off) on RWY 17L when another approaching aircraft is at 8 NM or more on the final approach track of RWY 17R for ensuring the simultaneously operational requirements for take-off aircraft.
7.2.3 Using RWY 35R/17L for take-off and landing, RWY 35L/17R for taxiing aircraft:
7.2.3.1 ATC of TWR Da Nang is responsible for ensuring the separation between aircraft taxi or cross RWY with another aircraft which is under control. The control and communication with aircraft shall be strictly coordinate for ensuring safety and regularity of the air traffic flow by GCU Da Nang and TWR Da Nang.
7.2.3.2 Using RWY 35L/17R for taxiing aircraft:
- ATCs are informed about the aircraft taxiing on the RWY 35L/17R for landing aircraft;
- Landing aircraft must conduct precision approach (ILS 35R);
- ATC must have action for ensuring the approaching aircraft to land on the correct RWY 35R such as repeat twice (2) the information about the RWY used for aircraft. Pilots are required to read back for ensuring that the aircraft has fully received and correctly understood ATC's clearance. ATC must enhance aircraft monitoring on the final approach track and remind pilots when necessary.
- By night:
  • RWY 35L/17R: The approach lighting system, PAPI, flashing lights must be turned off, RWY edge lighting system is switched at the lowest intensity level and follow-me car service must be provided for taxiing aircraft on RWY 35L/17R.;
  • RWY 35R/17L: All approach lighting system and RWY lighting for landing aircraft must be turned on as regulated.
- By day:
  • RWY 35L/17R: The approach lighting systems and RWY lighting must be turned off.
  • RWY 35R/17L: The approach lighting systems and RWY lighting must be turned on as regulated.
7.2.3.3 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft on RWY 35R/17L when the landing aircraft on RWY 35R/17L is:
  • Under ATS surveillance: At the position not less than 6 NM from THR; or
  • Without ATS surveillance: 3 minutes before ETA.
7.2.3.4 ATCs are only allowed to issue take-off clearance for aircraft on RWY 35R (when it is ready for take-off) when the aircraft to holding at TWYs E/E1/E2 or RWY 17L at TWY E4/E6/E7 when the landing aircraft with same direction with departing one is 8 NM or more on the final approach track of RWY 35R/17L and ensure the take-off operational requirements.
7.2.4 When there are military operation
Apply the current agreement between the units for ensuring the safety for flight operation.
7.2.5 When there are VIP flights
The RWY used for VIP flights shall be assigned on the basic of the RWY with the best equipment system and actual operational conditions.
7.2.6 When there is fighting situation
When notified and required by the involved military commander, the ATS unit of the civil aviation must quickly liberate RWY in order to facilitate the military aircraft take off.
7.2.1 Usage of RWY 35R/L:
7.2.1.1 RWY 35L is mainly used for landing and RWY 35R for take-off;
7.2.1.2 Aircraft is only allowed to line up and wait on RWY 35R while another aircraft is approaching final RWY 35L in the conditions as specified:
  • Visibility is at or above 3 000 m, ceiling is at or above 200 m and the ATS surveillance systems are in normal operation, the targets are accurate and ATC can monitor the aircraft trajectory on final leg;
  • If above conditions are not satisfied, ATC only allow departing aircraft to line up RWY 35R when the landing aircraft has passed THR of RWY 35L.

7.2.2 Usage of RWY 17R/L:
7.2.2.1 RWY 17R is mainly used for landing and RWY 17L for take-off.
7.2.2.2 Aircraft is only allowed to line up and wait on RWY 17L when the landing aircraft has passed THR of RWY 17R.
7.2.2.3 Departing aircraft is only allowed to take off on RWY 17L when:
  • Landing aircraft has landed normally on RWY 17R; or
  • Not less than 6 NM from RWY threshold under ATS surveillance; or
  • 3 minutes before ETA without ATS surveillance.
7.2.2.4 Departing aircraft is only allowed to take off at intersection of RWY 17L with TWYs E4/E6/E7 (when it is ready for take-off) when another landing aircraft is 8 NM final RWY 17R or more and ensure the take-off operational requirements.
7.2.3 Using RWY 35R/17L for take-off/landing, RWY 35L/17R for taxiing.
7.2.3.1 Using RWY 35L/17R for taxiing aircraft:
- Landing aircraft is informed about the presence of taxiing aircraft on RWY 35L/17R.
- Landing aircraft must execute precision approach (ILS RWY 35R).
- By night:
  • RWY 35L/17R:
    + The approach lighting system, PAPI, THR RWY identification of RWY 35L must be turned off.
    + RWY edge lighting system of RWY 35L is switched at the lowest intensity level and follow-me car service must be provided for taxiing aircraft on RWY 35L/17R.
  • RWY 35R/17L: All approach lighting system and RWY lighting for landing aircraft must be turned on as regulated.
- By day:

  • 3 minutes before ETA without ATS surveillance.
7.2.3.3 Departing aircraft is only allowed to take off at intersection of RWY 35R and TWYs E1/E2/E (when it is ready for take-off) or at intersection of RWY 17L and TWYs E4/E6/E7 when landing aircraft with same direction with departing one is 8 NM final RWY 35R or RWY 17L and ensure the take-off operational requirements.
7.2.4 When VIP flights are in operation:
VIP flights shall be assigned the RWY equipped the best facilities and operational conditions.
8. Putting a safety cones around the aircraft
In case of need to mark the stop line, safety cones will be placed on the both sides of the stop line, 2 m to 3 m from the centre line of the taxilane to stand before aircraft taxi into stand.
